Jemma Hye Jin Byun is an artist based in Boston, MA. She received her BFA from Korea University and is currently an MFA candidate at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Working primarily in oil paintings, she creates whimsical, dreamlike scenes that blur the line between childhood fantasy and adult contemplation. Her enchanting, surreal compositions feature a naive, narrative aesthetic that evokes nostalgia and wonder. Enjoying the pure and honest expression of her experiences and feelings, Jemma captures the essence of life in her art. The figures in her pieces often symbolize hope, freedom, or transcendence, yet their quiet expressions hint at a sense of melancholy, inviting viewers to explore the complexities of their emotions.
